The Ultimate Waist-Cinching Procedure

It’s one thing to want a flatter, toned abdomen; a traditional tummy tuck can achieve that result. It’s another thing entirely to want the Barbie treatment: not just a flatter abdomen, but a tiny waist with an impressive hip-to-waist ratio. That’s what can be achieved with internal corset surgery, also known as the corset tummy tuck

If you want three-dimensional waist-snatching, then the corset tummy tuck might be for you.

How Does the Internal Corset Procedure Work?

During a traditional tummy tuck, the front of the abdomen, specifically the rectus muscle, is repaired if it has been separated and tightened to achieve a flattened result. The goal is to remove excess skin and fat, and use the tightened rectus muscle to create a firmer plane for the midsection.

The corset tummy tuck, on the other hand, takes a 360 approach to the procedure. In addition to tightening the front of the abdomen for a flatter result, your surgeon also tightens the oblique muscles on the sides of the abdomen, resulting in a smaller waist circumference.

Dr. Pasquale Tolomeo is one of the leading corset tummy tuck experts, having learned cutting-edge techniques from global masters on the procedure. What sets Dr. Tolomeo’s take on the internal corset tummy tuck apart is his use of 360-degree high-definition liposuction, along with the tummy tuck steps. By incorporating liposuction throughout the midsection and the lower and upper back, a more cohesive result is achieved, as the hips and back slope more naturally toward the cinched waist.

Dr. Pasquale Tolomeo’s Corset Tummy Tuck Procedure Steps

Your corset tummy tuck will be performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. Dr. Tolomeo will perform the following steps:

  • Lipo 360: Dr. Tolomeo will begin the procedure with high-definition contouring of the upper and lower back, as well as the abdomen, if necessary. This creates a seamless transition between the upper body and the midsection.
  • Abdominal incision: Next, Dr. Tolomeo makes an incision low on the abdomen near the bikini line (right where a cesarean scar might be). Through this incision, he surgically tightens the rectus muscle and the oblique muscles using internal sutures.
  • Recontour the skin: Once the internal sutures are in place and the muscles are in a good position, Dr. Tolomeo redrapes the skin, removing any excess. He can also relocate the belly button for a more natural appearance. Once he is satisfied with the look, he closes the sutures.

What Is Corset Tummy Tuck Recovery Like?

While the corset tummy tuck provides more comprehensive results than a traditional tummy tuck, the recovery is still quite similar. In fact, the corset tummy tuck and traditional tummy tuck are comparable in terms of post-surgical discomfort and recovery length.

No matter the procedure, however, all cosmetic procedures will have slightly different recovery processes, informed by the individual nature of the procedure itself and the patient’s healing process. Therefore, your experience will differ from that of someone else, and vice versa. Generally speaking, the corset tummy tuck recovery process guidelines are as follows.

  • After your procedure, you will be given a compression garment to wear day and night, except when showering, until Dr. Tolomeo clears you. This garment is essential in helping your body heal, regulate after surgery, and help your skin retract. The compression garment also helps reduce swelling, which is a primary side effect after surgery that causes much of the discomfort.
  • You will also have to limit physical activity, including exercise, for at least six weeks. You may have limited mobility, as it will be difficult to stand fully straight for the first two days as your abdomen heals. Be gentle with your body and rest as much as possible. Then, slowly acclimate to adding more activity to your routine, such as taking daily walks. These walks can be as simple as taking a stroll around your living room (which might be all you feel up to at first). The goal is to allow your body to heal while promoting blood circulation to aid in the healing process and prevent blood clots.

Who Is a Candidate for a Corset Tummy Tuck?

If you have a naturally boxy frame, your abdomen has lost its hourglass shape due to pregnancy or aging, or you simply want to acquire a Barbie hip-to-waist ratio, a corset tummy tuck might be the procedure for you. In addition to the standard candidacy rules, such as being a healthy nonsmoker, corset tummy tuck candidates typically seek a more dramatic result than what can be achieved with a traditional tummy tuck.

Patients can also improve their results by combining their corset tummy tuck with another body contouring procedure, such as rib contouring, or adding the procedure to their Mommy Makeover for a more comprehensive result. Dr. Tolomeo’s signature scarless breast lift technique, paired with breast augmentation, is one sure way to craft the ultimate hourglass body of your dreams.
